Bright Beginnings

Our Vision: β€œAll Children are supported in getting ready for kindergarten to lay the building blocks for third-grade reading proficiency.β€œ

Bright Beginnings Central Virginia (BBCV) is a regional initiative, serving the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and the city of Lynchburg.  BBCV is housed within the United Way of Central Virginia, which serves as its fiscal agent. Strategies include:

  • providing direct support to early educators in the form of assessing, coaching and training to improve teacher-child interactions that promote growth and learning

  • engaging families to create school-home partnerships that connect parents/guardians with teachers and caregivers

  • building a regional early childhood education system encompassing collaboration, and coordination of student enrollment to ensure that as many children as possible are served

  • coordinating a mixed delivery preschool model that braids public and private funds

  • providing outreach activities to engage families and children who are not connected to early education programs to reach un-served communities.

  • Consulting with existing childcare programs, or guiding new programs

  • Providing monthly professional development to early childhood educators

  • Leading a regional effort to establish Coordinated Enrollment to assist families in finding the right education or childcare program
