Summer Learning Kits
Sometimes called the summer slide, summer learning loss happens when children don’t use or practice skills they learned in school over the summer. This sometimes results in the first six weeks of the new year spent on re-learning old material.
Summer Learning Kits by Bright Beginnings are full of suggestions for interacting with preschool or rising kindergarten children to practice pre-math and pre-literacy skills through play and activities. Young children learn best through play when they aren’t even aware that they are learning new things.
The kits include a “calendar” of activities, a book about going to kindergarten, and some items that can be used for activities, such as a magnifying glass (to inspect bugs and other things), watercolor paints (paint some rocks!), or play-doh. Kits are distributed each year in May to preschool programs for rising kindergarten students. Children who do not attend preschool and will be going to kindergarten may request a kit from Bright Beginnings.
Kits contain:
Summer activity ideas booklet
Watercolor Paint Set
Magnifying Glass
Magnetic letters
Going to Kindergarten storybook
Scavenger Hunt sheets
Other misc items or inserts as available
