FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA DISTRIBUTED 9,000 POUNDS OF FOOD TO LOCAL NON-PROFITS FROM OCTOBER FOOD DRIVE
United Way of Central Virginia (UWCV) distributed this year’s October Food Drive donations to the recipient food pantries as well as share food drive results to the public.
LYNCHBURG, VA- Over the course of the past month and a half, UWCV and their staff have been distributing food drive boxes and collecting food to participating businesses in the community. These businesses served as drop off locations and held internal food drives as well. Because of the overwhelming generosity of the community, UWCV was able to surpass their goal of 7,000 pounds of food and raise 9,000 pounds instead. Each of the twelve benefiting agencies received three full boxes that contained food, paper and hygiene products raised by the people of Central Virginia.
The following agencies will benefit from the 2018 October Food Drive:
Bedford Christian Ministries
DAWN
Lake Christian Ministries
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Park View Community Mission
Rivermont Area Food Pantry
Piedmont Community Impact
Prospect Food Pantry
Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
Salvation Army
Missionary Food Bank
REAP
“I think that the Food Drive really mirrors our campaign message this year which is ‘United We Are Making a Difference.’ Because everyone came together and gave one or two cans here and there, we were able to bring in an abundance of food into our office. A little bit goes a long way and the food drive is proof of that” UWCV’s Director of Marketing & Communications, Olivia Beavon, said.
UWCV is very thankful to all of the businesses that participated in this year’s food drive:
