Central Virginia (News & Advance): After days of perpetual rainfall, several Lynchburg nonprofits and organizations caught a break of sunshine Wednesday for the annual Day of Caring.
The event, sponsored by United Way of Central Virginia, is in its 26th year and provides an opportunity for organizations, corporations, businesses and individuals to come together to lend a hand. This year about 850 volunteers, up from 800 last year, came out to support nearly 40 local nonprofits and log about 4,000 volunteer-hours in one day.
“Day of Caring is a celebration of the spirit of giving that brings together community volunteers to complete service projects for not-for-profits throughout Central Virginia,” UWCV CEO and President Bill Varner said. “It’s a great way for companies and individuals to give back, to build teamwork and to show the difference a day can make when we all work together to improve our community.”
