Week (Day) of Caring 2020
Our 28th Day of Caring event is confirmed and will be taking place the week of September 14-18, 2020.
We recently put out a survey to past Day of Caring participants and the overwhelming consensus by both non-profits who have needs, and volunteers who will help fill them,is that our community wants and needs this event tohappen now more than ever!
Please note the following dates as we begin the ramp-up to our revamped “Week of Caring” Event
July 16, 2020 – Needs Registration will open for all non-profits to post their needs on the Get Connected website (separate email with instructions will follow)
August 12, 2020 – Volunteer Registration will open for all volunteers to register for needs (agencies can still post needs up until the Week of Caring event)
September 14-18, 2020 – Week of Caring – Projects will be fulfilled throughout the week, with an emphasis on health and safety (note: because social distancing will be required, needs will be spread out over several days; masks will be required when social distancing is not possible, but are encouraged at all times;PPE will be provided by agencies and United Way)
September 16, 2020 – United Way of Central Virginia Campaign Kick-off Day – Our 2020 Campaign will be launched on this day, and highlights of Week of Caring projects will be promoted throughout the day.(Note: there will be no Hillcats lunch or event at the stadium nor will boxed lunches be provided this year due to health and safety restrictions, but goodie bags will be provided to all participants. More info to come.)
Registration for agency needs is officially open. (Volunteer registration will open August 12). We will be using the GetConnected platform again for registration. This is a great tool to allow both the agencies and volunteers to sign up in one place. It is pretty user-friendly, but can get a little confusing. If you are familiar with the platform, you can go ahead and start adding needs to the 2020 Day of Caring Event. If not, you can either view this quick tutorial video or if you need more details, you can download step-by-step instructions of how to add needs to our site!
Needs can be anything from painting and landscaping, to office work and everythingin-between! Please make sure the title and description of your needs is very detailed, as this is what volunteers see when signing up for your needs.
Please note that this year, you will have a supplemental question that states which of the five dates your agency would be available to have the need fulfilled. You may choose all and then the volunteer can have the date that fits their schedule best.
We hope that you will be able to coordinate with the volunteers on a day that works best for you and them, as well as keeping the amount of people low at your organization. For instance, if you have multiple needs, we encourage you to spread those out among several days and volunteers. This may get confusing, but the United Way staff is here to help you. Please contact Dawn Wise, Director of Community Engagement, if you need immediate assistance. firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note: In lieu of t-shirts this year, we will be providing branded PPE for your group. We will also be providing additional PPE if you need it for your volunteers. We will coordinate with you at a later date for this.
We also, due to health concerns, will not be providing lunch at the Hillcats, nor will we be providing boxed lunches.
