Graphics Intern

The United Way of Central Virginia is seeking an intern to assist the Director of Marketing and Events in graphic design and the development of marketing materials for over 12 annual events; including golf tournaments, volunteer initiatives, festivals and holiday parties. This position would also help develop materials for our 2015-16 marketing campaign. This internship will provide a thorough understanding of the development of marketing materials through a large non-profit organization.

Interns will also achieve an overall understanding of how various United Way agencies meet the needs of Central Virginia by being an active participant in meetings and everyday office operations.

Specific events include:

  • Lynchburg Cooks for Hunger Relief
  • Annual Harris Corporation Golf Tournament
  • Annual Day of Caring
  • Annual Williams Company Golf Tournament
  • October Food Drive for Hunger Relief
  • Babcok & Wilcox Poker Run
  • Holiday Open House
  • The Red Carpet Gala

Specific duties for scheduled events will include development of promotional material, logistical support, data entry, tracking outcomes, running event related errands, etc.

Additional organizational duties may include attending meetings, answering phones, reception, collating data, distributing materials, and other duties as assigned.

Development (Fundraising)

United Way is seeking an outgoing, organized Development (Fundraising) Intern to assist the Development Department with fundraising efforts for the 2016 annual United Way Campaign.

The development internship is designed to equip students with the various skills and tactics used in a development role. Typical duties for the development internship position include making outbound calls to businesses from the contacts in the database; confirming guest attendance for events, booking Campaign dates and performing other tasks assigned by Resource Development Director.

A development internship is generally suited to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing. Prior exposure to development activities is valuable. Excellent customer service skills are a key trait for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Development Intern will assist with the fundraising efforts, specifically:

INTERNContact Corporate Accounts to set employee campaign dates

–     Follow-up via email, letter and phone.

–     Assist in setting up for events

–     Assist with campaign material distribution and delivery

 

Qualifications

–     Intern must be available to work between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 am         Monday to Friday

–     Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.

–     Excellent internet research skills.

–     Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

–     Knowledge of Photoshop a plus.
