Offers quality adult day care services to health impaired or disabled individuals. The Center provides a broad ranging therapeutic program of activities including personal care health monitoring, medication administration, exercises, music, crafts, and intergenerational. While providing a safe day time environment for the frail adult, the Center also gives their caregiver a break. The Center may be able to provide limited in-home respite for those unable to attend the program. Fee assistance available to those who qualify, contracted provider through Medicaid and the Veteran’s Administration.

Altavista Area/Campbell County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an organization that works in partnership with industries, businesses, communities, and people from all walks of life, to provide decent housing for the economically disadvantaged. This organization operates solely through charitable contributions in the form of grants and donations from various sources.

Services include 24 hour coverage for Armed Forces/Vets, disaster relief assistance, offer health & safety courses, HIV/AIDS education, blood collection sites, international tracing and youth activities.

Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging -- #1120 (434) 385-9070 Advocate and/or provide services for persons 60+ in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and Lynchburg in order for them to live with dignity in the least restrictive environment possible. We also provide transportation for disabled under 60.

Dedicated to providing confidential crisis intervention, support, referral, prevention, and education services to the Central Virginia Community. Professionally trained adult volunteers offer free confidential telephone contact with callers on four help-lines, Crisis Line, Teen Talk, Chatterline, and Sexual Assault Response. The non-judgmental listeners help sort through problems, suggest appropriate referral information and services in the community, and when the problem is too much for the caller to handle alone, provide emergency crisis intervention.

A volunteer emergency service agency that provides emergency services to needy persons within the Altavista/Hurt/Gretna area and is sponsored by the Altavista Area Ministerial Association. Emergency needs could be food, shelter, clothing medicine, fuel or gasoline.
Family Alliance -- #1010 (434) 845-5944 A multi-service agency dedicated to strengthening families and promoting healthy relationships. Programs and services include: Child Abuse Prevention Center, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, The Counseling Center (individual and family counseling), The Partnership for Prevention (substance abuse, out-of-wed lock births, violence), Teen Parent Program, and Healthy Families of Central Virginia.

The Gateway, started in 1988, provides transitional housing and supportive services to homeless men who are in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, holding them accountable as they learn to make better choices and rebuild their lives. Supportive services include: substance abuse and choice theory/reality therapy-based counseling, budgeting skills training, employment readiness, resume composition, job search, credit report review & repair, anger management training, relapse prevention, case management and more. The Gateway is a Section 8 housing facility with room for 24 men.

The PCIO provides two service-oriented programs to the citizens of Campbell County and the surrounding areas. The first program is Camp Philadelphia . The camp’s mission is to provide at-risk and disadvantaged youth with the tools necessary to become well-rounded and productive citizens. The programs are designed to maximize educational support and achievement through mentoring, education and training. The Outreach Program provides emergency assistance for food, utilities, rent and medication to those in need.
