WLC grants will fund programs that address one of six critical issues affecting women and children. These funding focus areas include: Reducing Violence Against Women (domestic violence, date violence, child neglect and elder neglect); Unemployment and Job Skill Training; Childhood Obesity, Nutrition and Exercise; Lowering Truancy and School Dropout Rates; School Readiness; and Poverty Issues: Homelessness, Utilities Assistance and Eviction. United Way’s WLC mobilizes the caring and philanthropic power of local women leaders who unite to enhance the quality of life in
Central Virginia . To date, seventy women have enrolled in the newly launched WLC organization, pledging at least $ 1,000 each to invest in their community. Together, the Council members identify and address critical needs in
Central Virginia , raise funds to meet these needs and decide how the funds they raised will be distributed back to their community.
